the raising of a saint

i guess we all aspire for our children to be precious little saints.

in our circle of friends, it's literal. as in, a new orleans saint.
WHODAT

we've been indoctrinated.

my love affair with nola began last spring.
i dream of cafe du monde, and i cannot wait to a let a little leighton lindsey blow powdered sugar off her beignet someday soon. leighton was actually along for the new orleans trip last year, but we didn't know it at the time. (thankfully, caroline was pregnant, too, which saved leighton from the hazards of too many....actually any...hurricanes.)

New Orleans - March 2009

somehow, too, our dearest friends all have some connection to the big easy.

reed & caroline are obsessed with nola, and they are saints fanatics.
mr. goldman became somewhat of a national icon in the dome during this football season.

lauren is from new orleans.

tiffany--leighton's nanny--is also from new orleans & an avid saints fan.

so, we started leighton early...she wore her fleur de lis proudly despite the glares of dallas' star laden cowboys fans.

and, by the super bowl, she was a true little saintsation!
i wanted to eat her alive in this tutu.

russ & reed went to the game in miami!

bless dem boys!
WHODAT!

milk monster

this picture is so leighton.

we love her little sign language. for those of you who don't speak latin (that's...lay-tuhn), let me interpret.

this look does not mean, "i am getting hungry and would like some milk, please." not by a long shot.

no, this particular gesture means, "i am starving my diaper-wearing booty off and if i don't get some milk now, i'm going to freak out." milliseconds become important when you see this face. and, this is when it's advantageous to be me over someone who needs a bottle warmer.

love you, little milk monster!

mema

mema, my dad's mom, died today.

we are beyond sad. horrifically shocked.
i am absolutely nauseous that leighton never got to meet her.

thinking about her has always helped keep me grounded;
she knew the important things in life but few of the luxuries.
kind. smart. humble. quiet. witty. loyal. generous.

we were blessed by her simple life & blessed by her strong love.
